Tourist Attractions Hassan

Hassan is a precious gem of Karnataka and a wonderful mirror of the richness of the artistic past of Karnataka. The ancient town discovered in 11th century is the gateway to popular pilgrimage centers like Belur, Shravanabelagola, Halebid and several others. There is a heavy influx of pilgrims as well as tourists to get a glimpse of the biggest center of Jainism, the Shravanabelagola. The massive structure of Lord Bahubali is truly awe-inspiring and one of the biggest tourist attractions. There are plenty of temples and the stunning piece of carvings are the real beauty of these ancient temples.

Hasanamba Shrine :
The shrine is beautiful and it has anthill displaying Hasanamba, the presiding deity. The shrine remains opened only once a year for a week.‘Jatra’ a big fair is held during the month of October.

District Museum HassanDistrict Museum :
Tiny museum is a charming storehouse of modest collection of weapons, coins, inscriptions and sculptures.

Suddeshvara Temple :
Venkatappa Naraka constructed this temple and is ages old.

Shravanabelagola :
Shravanabelagola  HassanShravanabelagola or the ‘land of pond’ is a major pilgrim place of the Digambara sect of Jainism in the country. It is about 50 kms from Hassan and has been a place of Jain worship for twenty three centuries. The place attracts the tourist in large numbers for its imposing statue of Lord Bahubali, the tallest monolith statue in the world.The statue is about 17 m.The statue is placed atop Indragiri hill.

During 'Mahamastakabhisheka', a Jain festival that is held in 12 years,the influx of pilgrims also increase. During the festival,the grand statue is bathed in sugarcane juice, saffron paste and milk.

Belur :
Belur HassanBelur is lying at a distance of 38 kms from Hassan and 90km from Shravanabelagola. The place is frequented by a large number of tourists as it houses the splendid 12 th century temple, Channakeshava Temple which was constructed during the reign of Hoysala.

The region is known for its lovely collection of three main temples. The Chennakeshava Temple, constructed during the triumph of Hoysalas over Cholas. The temple took more than 100 years to get completed. The inside of the temple is adorned with eye-catching intricate forms. Images of dancers, elephants that are carved on the walls simply augment the beauty of the walls. It showcases the outstanding Hoysala workmanship.

Tourists can surely enjoy the richly ornamented work of art in Kappe Chennigaraya and Veeranarayana Temple.

Halebeedu :
Halebeedu HassanHalebid is another attractive place famous for marvellous temples carved out of rock. In the ancient time, it was called Dwarasamudram, the capital of Hoysalas. This place is famous for the exquisitely beautiful Hoysaleswara Temple which goes back to 12th century. It took about 90 years for its construction but remained incomplete. Tourists visit the temple to get a glimpse of the statue of Nandi Bull.
