History of Hassan
The ancient town of Hassan was under the reign of Mouryas in the 3rd century BC. It went under the reign of different rulers at different point of time namely Kadambas, Chalukyas, Gangas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar empire.
Though a large part of the history of Hassan still remains shrouded in darkness but it is said that the great Hoysala Empire were the caretakers during 1th to 13th century AD.
The Hoysalas played a crucial role in bringing fame to the district by showcasing the beauty of the splendid style of temple architecture to the world. The marvellous temples of Halebid and Belur are the gifts of the great Hoysalas to the world of art.
